Long Distance Information

A long distance move can be a stressful and time consuming experience.  Brown’s Moving & Storage are dedicated to seeing to it that your moving experience is conducted efficiently and without worries. We’ve created this instructional guide outlining important details to ensure your goods are delivered and accounted for. To start off, we can provide you with a long distance estimate, where we give you an accurate cost estimate based off your travel distance and the weight of your goods.

1. Determining the weight of your goods

The first step of any cost effective long distance move is to find out the total weight of your goods. We offer "on location" estimates with our Moving Consultants who can inspect and determine the weight of goods with you. Be sure to show our consultant all goods and rooms regarding your move to provide you with the most accurate report of costs. If you prefer to determine the goods yourself, we can calculate an estimated cost based off your inventory over the phone.

2. Setting up the date and location

Once we have your estimate of weight, moving from/to locations, and when your move is taking place it’s time to book an appointment with us. We will require a deposit for the booking. Once received we’ll be sending you a Customer Responsibility Form via e-mail. We’ll then book the agreed-upon moving date.

3. Confirmation of move

We’ll be contacting you 24 hours before your moving date to reconfirm the agreed time, services required, and location. If for some reason we are unable to reach you, it is important to contact our Dispatch Office 24 hours in advance of the appointed time so we can make final adjustments.

4. Insuring your goods

On moving day, our crew will arrive on time with everything we need to safely package and deliver your goods. Our van foreman will walk through your premises and confirm with you your List of Goods and Services. After reviewing the Bill of Lading together, we’ll have you sign a contract of the outlined goods and our services.

5. Packing and Loading your goods

Our crew will be laying floor runners to protect high traffic areas around your premises.  If your goods are professionally packaged by us, they will all be covered for insurance purposes. Before the goods arrive at their final destination, we’ll be accurately weighing your goods to determine the final cost of the move. This information will be forwarded to you through either phone or e-mail. We’ll also be providing you with the date of arrival.

6. Destination arrival & payment

We’ll give you 24 hour notice in advance before we arrive on location with your goods. On arrival, we will be laying floor runners similar to when we loaded your goods. Before we unload the goods we’ll have to receive the full balance due via Cash, Visa, Mastercard, Money Order, Bank Draft, or Billing. Most moving expenses are tax deductable, so you can save a bit of money.

7. Unloading and inspecting your goods

As the goods are unloaded, we’ll need you to specify their final room and location. You’ll also be checking off the inventory as they are unloaded, including verifying their condition. If there are any missing items or inquiries our van foreman will be on site to assist you. Once all your goods are unloaded and their location and condition are verified by you, you’ll be given a final signed copy of the Bill of Lading and inventories for your own records. Your move is now complete with all your goods safe and accounted for.
